Job description:  

  

  1. Sets objectives, targets and strategies of the Department in support of the Company’s goals and objectives.
  2. Directs the following:
  • signing of Cover Notes, policies, endorsements and other related documents;
  • preparation of the Reinsurance Treaty Program (XOL/Surplus Treaty/Quota Share) including preparation and recommendation for Management Committee approval;
  • preparation and submission of Regional Office’s reporting requirements and regulatory reports;
  • proper implementation of the work processes and recommends changes or enhancement, if necessary, to promote better productivity and cost efficiency;
  • continued exchange of ideas with various operating departments to improve and ensure that client-servicing requirements are met, and management standard and goals are adhered to; and
  • continuous evaluation of all existing resources of the Department to ensure proper utilization.
  1. Reviews evaluations made by Underwriters on insurance applications and approves within given limit of authority.
  2. Initiates portfolio review in coordination with Claims Department to determine the profitability profile per assigned lines; formulates changes or enhancements to improve Underwriting results of portfolio held.
  3. Conducts periodic review of Underwriting Guidelines and updates as necessary.
  4. Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, and participating in professional organizations.
  5. Monitors the performance of the Department relative to plans, budgets and standards, analyze deviations, pinpoint areas for improvement and direct appropriate courses of action to ensure prompt and proper solution.
  6. Ensures coordination and harmonious working relations among the staff of the Department and with other work units of the Company.
  7. Reviews and recommends approval of the Department’s action plans, financial budget and expenditures.
  8. Ensures adherence of staff to all corporate policies, procedures and controls.
  9. Directs, guides, trains, motivates and evaluates performance of staff directly supervised.
  10. Represents the Company in various external professional organizations, as applicable.
  11. Perform other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
     

Job skills and requirements:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • At least 15 years in the insurance industry with at least 5 years in a supervisory capacity
  • Completed advanced courses in various lines of non-life insurance
  • Licensed Underwriter in at least 3 of the major lines, i.e., Property, Marine, Casualty, Surety
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills
  • Proven management and leadership skills
